The free sample pack map.

Thirty-six places for free sample packs, the huge ones included, each marked by whether its sounds are royalty-free in a song you release, and a genre guide from hip hop to tech house.

Adam builds a band out of the samples on your own computer, so the first question a new owner asks is where to get good ones without paying, or without getting into trouble later. This is the map: 36 places for free sample packs, each marked by what its licence lets you do in a song you release. Most are royalty-free, a few are not, and the lights below say which. Every light was checked on the source’s own licence, terms or download page on 24 September 2026. Looking for one style? Jump to free sample packs by genre.

The one rule almost everyone shares. You may use the sounds inside your own tracks. Almost nobody lets you pass the sounds on as sounds: no re-uploading them, no selling them in a pack of your own. Several now forbid using them to train AI, a few have rules about Content ID, and some want the sound mixed with other audio rather than released on its own.

Always read the licence of the exact pack you download, at the moment you download it: licences change. This page is a guide, not legal advice.

How to read the lights

  • Green Free, fine in a released track, no credit, no signup.
  • Yellow · email Would be green, but you give an email address or make a free account.
  • Yellow · condition Free and fine in a release, with one real rule you must follow: a credit, a format, a use to avoid.
  • Red Not for releases, or the rules change from file to file.
  • Paid A subscription or a purchase, royalty-free once paid.

A Check before release tag means we could not read every word of that licence. Fine for making music tonight; read the small print before you put the song out.

The fastest start: five for tonight

Five that fill a first folder with very different sounds, every one green or behind nothing more than an email:

  1. MusicRadar SampleRadar, for a bit of everything, in every genre.
  2. Goldbaby, for drum machines and synths recorded through analog gear.
  3. Black Octopus free 1 GB, for house, trap and hip-hop, bass and drums included.
  4. VSCO 2 Community Edition, for strings, brass and keys, public domain.
  5. 99Sounds, for cinematic and ambient sounds, foley and synths.

Keep it tidy: one folder per source inside one sample folder, and keep the tempo and key in a file’s name when they are there (guitar_loop_122_Cmin.wav). Adam reads both from the name.

The huge ones: the biggest free sample packs

When you want a whole folder in one download, these are the largest free packs on the map. Each keeps its light and its rules from the tables below.

Bigger still are the libraries you search rather than download whole: Looperman, BandLab Sounds (160,000+ loops and one-shots) and Freesound. A huge pack is thousands of files, and that is fine: when Adam scans the folder it files every sound under its instrument, so nobody has to audition them one by one.

Free sample packs by genre

Most free packs are not made for one style, and a good kick works in hip hop and house alike. When you want sounds for one genre, these are the places on this map that name it themselves, as a pack name or a genre filter. Where nothing here names a genre, the row says so.

GenreWhere to start
Hip hop and rapCymatics’ free vault (eight hip hop packs), the Loopmasters Hip-Hop & Trap sampler, Black Octopus free 1 GB, and Looperman’s Hip Hop and Rap filters.
Trap and drillThe Cymatics Trap starter pack, Function Loops’ trap drums, Producer Spot’s trap kits, Black Octopus, and Looperman’s Trap and UK Drill filters.
Boom bapLooperman’s Boom Bap filter. No free pack here is named boom bap; the hip hop packs above are the next stop.
Lo-fiThe Cymatics Lofi starter pack and Looperman’s Lo-Fi filter.
R&B and soulFunction Loops’ funk, soul and RnB pack, and Looperman’s RnB and Soul filters.
HouseThe Loopmasters House sampler, the Cymatics House starter pack, Black Octopus, Producer Spot’s house kits, and Looperman’s House filter.
Deep houseLooperman’s Deep House filter, then the house packs above.
Tech houseThe Loopmasters Tech House sampler and Black Octopus free 1 GB, which names tech house.
Afro houseThe Loopmasters Afro House sampler.
TechnoThe Loopmasters Techno sampler and Looperman’s Techno filter. For the drum machines techno is built on, Goldbaby’s free packs and BPB’s Cassette 909.
Melodic techno and minimalNo free source here names either. Start from the techno row, and take synths and textures from Goldbaby and 99Sounds.
Drum & bass and jungleThe Loopmasters Drum & Bass sampler, and Looperman’s Drum And Bass and Jungle filters.
DubstepThe Cymatics Dubstep starter pack and Looperman’s Dubstep filter.
EDMThe Cymatics EDM starter pack, Black Octopus, Producer Spot’s EDM kits, and Looperman’s EDM filter.
Trance and psytranceBlack Octopus and Function Loops (both name psytrance), and Looperman’s Trance filter.
PopThe Loopmasters Pop sampler and Looperman’s Pop filter.
AfrobeatsLooperman’s Afrobeat filter.
Reggaeton, dancehall and reggaeLooperman’s Reggaeton, Dancehall and Reggae filters, and the Loopmasters Reggae & Dub sampler.
SynthwaveFunction Loops’ synthwave pack, and Goldbaby’s analog synths.
Cinematic and orchestralVSCO 2, VCSL, the Philharmonia and Iowa recordings, 99Sounds, and the Loopmasters Cinematic sampler.
Vocals and acapellasGhosthack’s collection and the Loopmasters Vocals sampler. Looperman’s acapellas are personal use unless the uploader says otherwise.

Every source above keeps its light from the tables below: Cymatics carries a Check before release tag, and Loopmasters asks, without requiring it, that you buy the full pack if you release with a sampler. The genre names are the sources’ own, read on 30 September 2026.

Left out on purpose

  • Reverb’s Drum Machines collection is no longer free.
  • Spitfire LABS is a plugin rather than a folder of samples, and its licence does not let you record its sounds into loops of your own.
  • Zenhiser has no free samples page today.
  • Hip Hop Makers links to other people’s packs, and its royalty-free claims are its own. Go to the original makers.
  • r/Drumkits: kits there are often of unknown origin, with no licence you can rely on.

Questions producers ask

Where can I get a huge free sample pack?

MusicRadar’s SampleRadar is the biggest here, close to 99,000 WAVs with no signup. For one big download: VSCO 2 (about 3 GB of orchestra), Sounds of Revolution (about 2.86 GB of electronic loops), Ghosthack (1.95 GB) and Black Octopus (about 1 GB). The huge ones lists them with their rules.

Are free sample packs royalty-free?

Most on this map are: 27 of the 36 are free and fine in a song you release, and the three paid ones are royalty-free once paid. Royalty-free means you owe nothing per play or per sale of your track. It never means you may share or sell the sounds themselves, and a few sources add a rule such as a credit. The six red sources are not safe for a release as they stand.

Where are free sample packs for house and tech house?

For tech house, the Loopmasters Tech House sampler and Black Octopus free 1 GB. For house, add the Loopmasters House sampler, the Cymatics House starter pack, Producer Spot’s house kits and Looperman’s House and Deep House filters. For afro house, the Loopmasters Afro House sampler.

Where are free hip hop and trap sample packs?

Cymatics’ free vault has eight hip hop packs plus trap and lo-fi starter packs (read its licence when it arrives). Black Octopus, Function Loops’ trap drums, Producer Spot’s trap kits, the Loopmasters Hip-Hop & Trap sampler and BPB’s Cassette 808 are the rest, with Looperman’s Hip Hop, Trap and Boom Bap filters for loops.

Where can I find free techno samples?

The Loopmasters Techno sampler and Looperman’s Techno filter name it. Techno is built on drum machines, so Goldbaby’s free analog drum-machine packs and BPB’s Cassette 909 are where a techno kit starts. No free source here is named melodic techno or minimal.

Can I use a sample from a hip hop pack in a house track?

Yes. A licence says what you may do with the sound, not which genre it goes in. Adam Studio files every sound in your folder under its instrument, not its pack, so a kick from a trap kit is one choice among all your kicks.

Now point Adam at the folder.

Put everything in one sample folder and follow step 3 of the guide: choose the folder, press ANALYZE, and Adam files every sound under its instrument.

Pick your Adam.
